Generous Ian

Last night, while I was watching TV, I saw Ryan coming out of the room almost in tears. He sat on the sofa brooding and it was obvious that he was very angry over something.

I asked him several times but he kept quiet.

1 hour later, he was still mad. So I hugged him in bed and talked to him.

Me: What happened?
Ryan: (silence)
Me: Tell me. If you do not tell me, I won't know.
Ryan: (kept quiet and hid his face under the pillow)

(Ian has joined us in bed watching us)

Me: Are you angry with daddy?
Ryan: No
Me: Are you angry with mommy?
Ryan: No
Me: Are you angry with Ian?
Ryan: (now in tears) YES! I don't like him!!

(Now Ian hid his face under the pillow)

Me: Ian, what have you done?
Ian: (silence)
Ryan: I have a cupboard where I put my favourite toys. I told Ian never to open it. Just now, I saw that many toys were missing.
Me: How come?
Ryan: Ian said he has given them to Jeremy and Joel (their cousins).

(That explains why Ian has been bringing different toys to childcare daily. All 3 of them are in the same childcare.)

Mommy: Ok, we will take back from Jeremy and Joel ok?
Ryan: I have taken back from Jeremy already but Joel said he doesn't know where they are now.
Me: Ian, why did you take kor kor's toys? And give away??
Ian: (burst out crying... and then wailing... and finally vomitted)

The episode ended with us cleaning up Ian's mess and going to bed thereafter.

Hmmm... Ian is so generous with things that does not belong to him.

Quick updates

Quite a few updates.
_____________________________

We have bought a 1 more fish and 2 prawns last week. That fish died within 3 hours. Once we put it into the tank, the existing ones took turns to attack their new friend. Poor fish.

By the way, Pulp, colourful, Nemo and one of the new prawns have died in chronological order. White spots were visible on them before they died. Only Zebra and one more prawn are alive and kicking... I mean swimming. Zebra is aso suffering from white spots and I think his days are numbered too.

I am still considering if we should top up the tank with new fishes.

Ryan was complainig to me one day that he is going deaf. He called me in the office.

Ryan: Daddy, I feel like I am going deaf.
Me: What do you mean?
Ryan: I hear very soft.
Me: Which ear?
Ryan: (silent)
Me: Which ear?
Ryan: I don't know how to say.
Me: Right or left?
Ryan: Huh?
(My goodness, I think he doesn't know what is right and left)
Me: Is it on the side of the hand that you write? (He is right handed)
Ryan: No. The other side.
Me: Ok, daddy will check when I come home tonight.

I did an otoscopy and saw heavy ear wax in his ears. Brought him to a GP to do syringing but he advised against it. Prescribed waxsol. The last time I checked, wax is still present. May have to insist syringing in our next visit to the doctor.

By the way, Ryan was taught to differentiate right and left that same night!

Recently, Ian likes to ask me "What time is it huh?"

One morning, I was wearing my watch to go to work and he asked again.

Ian: Daddy, what time is it huh?
Me: Why? Are you rushing?
Ian: No.
Me: If I tell you the time, will you understand?
Ian: Tell me, what time is it?
Me: 8.15am
Ian: AIYOH! 8.15am already. Quick quick..... Must go to school already.
Me: Are you late? (I was puzzled) What time must you reach school?
Ian: I don't know.
Me: Then why did you say AIYOH??
Ian: 8.15 already what!
Me: Is it late?
Ian: Don't know. Quick quick.... lets go

The next night while I was watching TV.......

Ian: Daddy, what time is it huh?
Me: 10.20pm
Ian: AIYOH! Time to sleep already. (with lots of drama)

He behaved as if he really know that it was late.

Ryan called home to ask for permission to go to his friend's home to play some computer games after school. Mommy said no.

He brought his friend home after school so that his friend can help to ask for permission.

Anyway, they only asked for 10 mins to see his friends new game. He lives in the next block. Permission granted. Jenny and Ian went along.

10 mins later, Ryan came home unhappy.

Ryan: My friend bluffed me. He said he will let me play 10 mins. In the end, he played 6 mins. I only played 2 mins and I got to come home already!

Coconut

Ryan has taken a liking for coconut recently. While we were having dinner earlier, we had this conversation.

Me: When daddy is old, will you also buy me a coconut when I ask for it?

Ryan: Why?

Me: What do you mean why? I have been buying you a coconut each time you asked for it. I also want to drink coconut when I am old.

Ryan: Ok lor.

Me: But I want 2. Can?

(Ryan slapped his palm on his forehead)

Me: Why that expression?

Ryan: Two???

Me: Yes. Cannot?

Ryan: errrr....... ok lor.... (sounded as if he has been cornered and has no choice)

Mommy: What about me?

Ryan: How many you want?

Mommy: One. But not one for the whole life. I want one each time I ask.

Ryan: Ok.

Me: Ian, will you also buy me a coconut?

Ian: NO! (loud and clear)

Me: Why?

Ian: I will buy you present.

Hmmmm....... better start educating them a lot more about filial piety.

Ryan's pocket money

While I was sending Ryan to school this morning, he suddenly exclaimed...

Ryan: Oh no, mommy forgot to give me pocket money!
Me: How much?
Ryan $3 (that's for his lunch and recess)
Me: Do you have money now?
(Ryan checked his wallet)
Ryan: Yes.
Me: How much? And who gave it to you?
Ryan: Ah ma. $3
Me: Ok. Keep that money. I will give you the pocket money now.
(I only have 2 $2 notes)
Ryan: $4??
Me: Yes.
Ryan: I give you change? (He took out his wallet)

Ha ha.... I told him to keep it. Or maybe I should take it?

Ryan was lost?

I was on the way home last night when I got a call from Ai Peng telling me Ryan has not come home. She confirmed that the school bus has come and gone.

I quickly drive towards his school to see if he was still in school. It was past 7pm already.

In another 10 minutes, Ai Peng called again to say he has just got home. Phew!

He was home 20 mins late because he had gone to the playground with his friends without informing us.

Time to take out the cane? That's what I did. He apologised for his mistake but I still whack his hand once to let him know it was not right. Ouch!

Kissing & Hugging 2

This morning Ian did not go to childcare because he was coughing.

Ryan has gym in the morning and I sent him to school. Just before Ryan got into the car, Ian held on to Ryan very tightly by the waist.

Ryan: What do you want?
Ian: Kiss first
(Ryan bent down to let Ian plant a kiss on his cheek. But he still did not let go.)
Ryan: What else do you want??
Ian: Your turn to kiss me!
Ryan: Grrr.... (He really made this sound)
(Ian pulled Ryan's neck down to kiss him)
Ian: Bye bye.

Kissing & hugging

Ian can be very "sentimental" when he is in a good mood.

Sometimes, he will hop onto me and peck me on the lips for no reason. And then, he'll quickly wipe his mouth with his tiny hands. Cute.

This morning, while we were in the lift leaving home, he suddenly cried.

Ian: I have not kissed kor kor (his sleeping brother)
Ai Peng: Never mind. We are late already.
Ian: I want to kiss kor kor first (crying gets louder)

No choice. Ai peng brought him upstairs again just to let him kiss his beloved kor kor while I waited in the car.
______________________

When we reached his childcare, he went into the centre alone as usual. I waited at the window from outside watching him place his bag into the pigeon hole .

When he came to the window, he did not just wave goodbye this time.

Ian: I want hug hug.
Me: How to? I am outside! (separated by the window grills) Kiss my hand ok?
Ian: No, I want hug hug.
(I stretched both hands as far inside as possible. I patted his back pretending to hug)
Me: Ok?
Ian: Ok. I want to kiss hand.
(Gave him my hands again)
Me: See you tonight?
Ian: Bye bye.

Ryan's favourite Medals

I used to be quite an athlete. Note that the keywords here are "used to be".

I had won lots of medals (more than 100) from school and army. Majority of them were sprinting medals. I also have medals from soccer, hockey, swimming, scouting, chess, gynmnastics etc .... hey, do i sound like i am boasting here?

My mother has thrown at least half of them away when we shifted house. When I got married and each time I moved house, I threw more away. What I have left in my cabinet are those more sentimental ones to remind me of the "glorious" days.

Ryan called me on the telephone one day, probably after admiring my medals.

Ryan: daddy, do you know which is my favourite medal?

Me: What do you mean? You have only one golf medal isn't it?

Ryan: No. I mean your medals.

Me: Hmmm.... my swimming medals? (cos they are taller)

Ryan: No.

Me: Running? (I have more of those)

Ryan: No.

Me: hockey? ...... gymnastics?..... blah blah blah...

Ryan: No... No.... No...... give up?

Me: Ok, give up.

Ryan: The one that is on top of the cupboard?

Me: (wondering) which one?

Ryan: The one that is very tall?

Me: Oh..... that one!! (I won that as "Mr. Personality - runner up" in NUS)

Ryan: You know which one? I want to get that one next time. How do you get it?

Me: (trying not to laugh as i try to kid him) First of all, you must be handsome. Then you must be humourous and a lot of girls must like you. (Hey people, stop throwing eggs at me. I was only kidding him)

Ryan: Eeeeeeee....... don't want to win that already.
