Fireworks display

On the eve of Natonal Day, I drove the family to catch the fireworks display. We left home at 8.15pm hoping to find a good venue near Marina.

As expected, there was a huge traffic jam as we get closer to Marina area. We were along the AYE leading towards ECP. Everyone's spirits were superbly high although we were stucked in the jam.

Ryan and Ian were singing national songs... Count On Me Singapore..... Island Home....etc. They even sang the National Anthem and recited the pledge ... repeatedly!

It was clear we could not make it to Marina before 9pm. Our car was just below Sheares bridge around 8.40pm. How nice it would be catching the fireworks on top of the bridge exactly at 9pm? We were praying our timing would be just right.

Sadly, we were right on top at 8.55pm. There were lots of traffic policemen making sure the cars kept moving. By the time the fireworks started at 9pm, we were already at the bottom of the bridge near Suntec City. We could hear the explosions but we saw NOTHING!

15 mins later, the show was over. And we were still stucked in traffic!

Ian was wailing........ literally crying and screaming in disappointment.

Ian: Why so fast? Why did the fireworks finish so fast? I want to watch!

Ryan? The singing and long drive gave him motion sickness. He vomited in the car.

What a night!

On 12 Aug (Sat), I decided to bring the kids to catch the last installment of the fireworks display. This time, we started our journey at about 7.15pm from Goldhill Square.

The kids had a long day and Ryan was more keen to go home. Ian wanted to watch the fireworks though.

We drove into the city and got ourselves stucked AGAIN...!!! We tried so many places and finally parked our car at Raffles Place around 8.40pm.

We followed the crowd and tried walking towards Esplanade. No way! The crowd was so huge it filled the pavement. We could go only as far as One Fullerton. By then it was 9pm and the fireworks started.

See the picture.

We were standing on the pavement in front of Fullerton Hotel. We could only see the top half of the firweworks due to One Fullerton Building blocking the bottom half.

The crowd was rowdy and huge. So I carried Ian most of the time. I was tired, perspiring and arms aching. When I turned to ask him if he enjoyed himself, guess his reply!

Me: Ian, did you enjoy yourself? Is it nice?

Ian: No!

Me: Why? See? (pointing to the sky) it's so colourful.

Ian: What time finish? Why so long?

I was speechless. After all the hardwork and long drives?? Grrrrrr...!!

How did we get home? Through the jams again of course!
