I pay you back later

The family went to Cold Storage after dinner for some grocery shopping this evening. As usual the kids wanted to buy sweets.

(Conversation in the car)

Ryan: Can I buy sweets?

Mommy: No, you have lots of sweets from Children's day party already.

Ryan: They are not nice!

Mommy: No

Ryan: I buy 3 only, please?

Me: Why 3? There are only 2 of you.

Ryan: 1 for me, 1 for Ian and 1 for my friend.

Me: Wow! You are so generous with daddy's money?

Ryan: I use my own money. Can?

We ignored him. At Cold Storage, Ryan did not give up. He went round the place and found his sweets.

Ryan: Daddy, can I buy this?

Me: No

Ryan: Please?!

Me: No

Ryan: You pay first? I pay you back later.

Me: How much?

Ryan: $5.95 and $0.95.

Me: Sure? You'll pay me back?

Ryan: Yes

Me: You think you have lots of money?

Ryan: Yes. I have more than $50 in my piggy bank.

Me: Ok. From now on, you pay for your own sweets. Let's see how long your $50 can last.

Ryan: Ok.

Maybe this will start teaching him the value of money. And that $50 is not much.
