Cycling in the pool

Ha ha....

The boys went cycling this evening around the estate and guess what? Ian cycled into the swimming pool. Yes, the entire bicycle and him went into the condominium baby pool. He was shocked and was crying all the way home.

My domestic help was with them and I heard the security guard helped to retrieve the bicycle.

All through the night, we teased Ian.

"Ian, you should wear swimming trunks when you go cycling the next time ok?"

"Ryan, what do you call a cyclist who tries to swim at the same time?" "IAN!"

"Ian, you are so clever. Can swim and cycle at the same time. Can teach me?"

Ha ha...

Ian is nearly Reuben

4 years ago, we had much difficulty finding a name for Ian. Initially, we wanted a name starting with "R". I am Ronald and his kor kor is Ryan (it means little King). Hmm.... what should we call him?

Roy, Robert, Reginald, Richard,...... the list goes on and we decided on "Reuben".

Reuben???

My only experience with Reuben is one of my patient who has given me lots of problems. The other Reuben I know is the formula one driver. Nevertheless, we decided he should be called Reuben. Why? I cannot remember.

The decision was made but somehow a big part of me don't feel comfortable. Reuben Pang Jie Wei? I kept asking myself "sure or not"?

Ai Peng then told me days later that Jacob's son (in the Bible) is called Reuben, which means "first born". Hey, Ian is not our first born. Great! Now I have a valid reason why he should not be named Reuben. And I felt much better.

We were shopping in Orchard one evening and Ai Peng's water bag burst prematurely. We went straight to the hospital and she had an emergency caesarian. The gynae said the baby was already drinking some blood in the womb and that's dangerous.

The operation was a very successful one and by God's grace, little Ian was born on 30 Mar 2002.

Ian? It does not start with "R"!

Never mind, We know Ian is the most appropriate name for him because it means "God is gracious".

Father's Day Card

It's 10.30pm, eve of Father's day now. Ryan is busy finishing his father's day card for me.

I saw him working on it but he kept brushing me away. He asked me to give him a few more minutes. And he said he will give me the card on one condition. I cannot put it on the blog.

Hmmmm..... what is so special about this card? I wait in anticipation.

As for Ian, he has given me the card. Ok ok... he did not give me the card. He simply left it on the table and I saw it. He did it in his childcare with the help of his teachers. In case you are wondering what is that abstract drawing, it's "daddy's boat". It is written faintly with pencil on the left hand side (upside down). And I need to teach him how to spell my name properly.

As I am writing this blog, Ryan just came in to give me the card. He left it on the table shyly, mumbled quickly "Happy father's Day" and left the room. I summoned him back, hugged him, thanked him, told him the card is nice and made him wish me properly.

The card is a computer printout, personalised with some of his finishing touches. He actually made 2 cards because Ian spoiled the first one. He said he didn't want anyone else to see the card. I think he is shy about his "work". I will need to encourage him more.

Thank you boys. Daddy is proud of you.

"About Ian silly things"

I was watching the world cup game (Australia vs Japan) in my study room and found this little card on the floor.

There were some writings on the back of the card.

It was written by Ryan. He said he was feeding Ian dinner last night and was very frustrated with him. So he wrote this to describe Ian's behaviour at dinner.

Reading his handwriting is like going through a maze.

About Ian Silly things

1. Ian call Ryan crazy.
2. Ian cannot sit on the chair.
3. Ian keep doing silly things.
4. Ian keep talking and walk around.
5. Ian keep lying down on the chair.
6. Ian keep shouting at the table.

Sigh... Should I engage a tutor to improve Ryan's English?

Family at church camp

My whole family has gone to our church camp in KL for 4 days. I am all alone back home. I am extremely bored. Too bad, I can't join them due to work commitments.

I called them just an hour ago (1st night) and spoke to Ian just before they go to bed.

Me: Hi Ian, are you having fun?
Ian: Yes
Me: I miss you all. I want to join you all.
Ian: Cannot.
Me: Why?
Ian: Very far. Must take bus.
Me: I can drive.
Ian: Also cannot.
Me: Why? You don't want daddy to go?
Ian: Dont want.
Me: Why?
Ian: The bed is very small. Very squeezy.
Me: What?!! ....... but I am very lonely here.
Ian: You go and work lor!

Sigh...............

Bedtime riddles

Just before bedtime a few nights ago, we took turns to give each other riddles in bed.

I started first. Deliberately made it easy for the boys.

I am big
I have 4 legs
I have a long nose
Who am I?

Ryan was very quick to shout ELEPHANT! He is always very fast. I have told him many times to give Ian some time to think for awhile. At least give his brother a chance to guess.

Ryan was next to give his riddle.

I am long
I have no legs
I glide on the floor
Who am I?

Of course I knew the answer. It's a snake but I gave Ian time to think. No, he can't get it right.

Ian was next to give a riddle. I was eagerly waiting to see what this 4-year-old boy can come up with.

I have 4 legs.
I have a long neck
I am a giraffe
Who am I?

Ha ha.... all laughed. It's bad to laugh but we can't stop. Ian was so embarrassed. Hid his face under the pillow and stopped participating.
